Akure, Ondo State (Nigeria): The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 17, Mr Ajani Omolabi, has issued a firm directive to officers in Ondo and Ekiti States: enforce the tinted glass permit law with professionalism or face disciplinary action.
Omolabi, overseeing policing activities in Ondo and Ekiti States, gave the charge in a statement on Friday in Akure.
He warned that any policeman found engaging in extortion or misconduct would face strict disciplinary action, including their supervising officer, who would also be held accountable.
The AIG advised motorists in Ondo and Ekiti States who have not obtained their tinted glass permit to do so by visiting https://www.possap.gov.ng for registration.
He added that applicants are to proceed to the police command in Akure or Ado-Ekiti for physical verification.
According to him, motorists who are unwilling to obtain the permit are advised to remove and replace their tinted glass with transparent glass to avoid sanctions.
He noted that the directive was issued in line with the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2024.
The AIG stated that the exercise would also cover enforcement of the subsisting ban on unauthorised use of sirens, revolving lights, and unregistered vehicles.
Omolabi added that the measures were part of a broader effort to enhance national security and curb criminal activities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered enforcement to commence nationwide on October 2.
