Ibadan, Oyo State (Nigeria): An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has arraigned Kareem Akinleye, 86, and his son, Akintunde Akinleye, for allegedly defrauding a buyer of ₦4.5 million under pretences.
The duo were charged with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, threat to life and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olarotimi told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometime in May 2025 at the Sango area in Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendants obtained N4.5 million from Moshood Rafiu on the pretext of selling him three acres of land, but failed to do so.
Olarotimi said that the older man and son allegedly converted the money into their personal use and threatened to kill Rafiu over the said land issue.
He said the offences were contravened Sections 516, 419, 323 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each and two sureties each in like sum.
She held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants and thereafter adjourned the case until Dec.18 for hearing.
