Makurdi, Benue State (Nigeria): As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume has inaugurated a grassroots support group for President Bola Tinubu in Benue State.

The launch signals early mobilization efforts and strategic alignment aimed at consolidating political support in the North Central region.

Akume, who performed the ceremony in Makurdi, thanked Mr Mathias Byuan, Chief Convenor/Coordinator of the group, for his initiative.

Represented by Sen. Jacob Gyado, Akume stated that Tinubu has already secured his second-term bid through the implementation of people-oriented projects and policies.

He said that Benue, and indeed the North Central, will massively vote for the president again in 2027.

“The Tiv people, too, must have a political leader; let the youths wait for their time. You can’t start school today and become a professor today. When the time comes, we will be in touch with you.

“I have produced three governors consecutively and several senators. Any wise politician should know who to follow,” he said.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio said President Tinubu has done well for the people of Benue by appointing the first-ever SGF in North Central in the state.

Represented by Sen. Titus Sam, Akpabio stated that the President has demonstrated purposeful leadership through impactful reforms and the execution of people-oriented projects in Benue and other states of the federation.

“Tinubu is the best thing that has happened to this country. Nigerian students are already testifying that, as recipients of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, they now have access to funds to pay their fees.

“Through the removal of fuel subsidies, governors now access billions monthly to execute projects in their various states. The list is endless,” he said.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Abbas Tajudeen, advised youths to shun the politics of violence for progressive politics.

Represented by Mr Dickson Tarkigir, Member of the House of Representatives for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Tajudeen said Tinubu has a special affection for the people of Benue.

Chief Simon Shango, Chairman of the APC Elders Council, in his remarks, strongly condemned the current crisis within the APC in the state.

Shango said that for over 80 years of his existence, he had never seen what was happening in the state where the elected state party officials had no place to work.

He also regretted that, though other states of the federation were currently enjoying democracy, the situation in Benue was different, adding that there was every need for a change of government in 2027.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Mr Mathias Byuan, Chief Convener/Coordinator of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu (ABT) Support Group 2027, said Benue and the entire North Central had every reason to support President Tinubu in 2027.

Byuan, who is also the Executive Director of Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority, stated that the President had made 24 appointments in the state, including the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, held by Sen. Akume.

He said the support group will conduct extensive door-to-door consultations throughout the state, educating the people about the President’s activities and policies.

He further commended the President for the ongoing construction of the flyover at Wurukum in Makurdi, the bridge at River Buruku, as well as several roads and electrification projects in the state.
