Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on his 65th birthday, hailing him as a courageous and consistent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement from Abuja, Tinubu described Fayose—fondly known as Osokomole—as a man whose resilience and candour have defined his public life.
He noted that Fayose’s first tenure as governor, though turbulent and cut short, revealed his uncommon strength in the face of adversity.
Tinubu praised Fayose’s remarkable comeback in 2014, calling it “one of the great political comebacks of our time,” as Fayose became the first politician to defeat two incumbent governors in Nigeria.
Highlighting his grassroots appeal, Tinubu noted that Fayose’s deep connection with ordinary citizens earned him the title “Ore Mekunnu” (friend of people with low incomes).
He also commended Fayose’s contributions to infrastructure, education, and healthcare in Ekiti, citing projects such as the High Court complex and the new governor’s office.
“Osokomole has never lacked the courage of his convictions. His strength lies in his consistency and his fearless expression of views, no matter whose interest is affected,” Tinubu said.
The President acknowledged Fayose’s support for his administration and prayed for his continued health and renewed purpose in service to God and humanity.
