COAS Urges Troops to Uphold Courage, Professionalism in North‑West Operations

Abuja: Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has charged troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to remain steadfast and professional as they step up efforts to restore peace in the North‑West.

Shaibu gave the charge on Thursday during his maiden operational visit to the operation’s Area of Responsibility in Zamfara.

This is contained in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, on Thursday in Abuja.

The COAS commended the troops for their resilience and sacrifices despite the complex security challenges in the region.

He assured personnel that the service was taking urgent steps to address operational gaps and the welfare concerns raised by troops on the front lines.

Shaibu promised to address all the issues affecting land and air components of the operation in collaboration with other services.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to improving troops’ motivation, equipment and overall support systems to enhance operational effectiveness,” he said.

Shaibu urged the personnel to conduct themselves professionally and continue to sustain the confidence of citizens who depend on them for protection.

“These challenges are transient. Remain resolute, remain determined, and continue doing your job professionally. The Nigerian people appreciate your service,” he added.

He also commended the synergy among the services in the ongoing operations and reaffirmed the military leadership’s commitment to improving working conditions for personnel deployed across the theatre.
