Abuja: A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Nature First, has urged Nigerians to adopt healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious diets to prevent life-threatening ailments.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NGO, Priscilla Canice-Obi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Canice-Obi, maintaining a healthy lifestyle would also ensure an individual’s wellness and fitness.
The NGO, based in Abuja, is involved in natural nutrition and wellness solutions through sourcing, processing, and packaging of natural spices and supplements.
“We also source herbs, plant-based foods and oils to boost nutrition and promote wellness.
“Our raw materials are sourced from local markets and farms in rural communities, mainly from the Northern part of the country.
“Our plant-based foods, supplements and herbs provide micro and macro nutrients that help prevent malnutrition, boost immunity and help prevent lifestyle diseases, while improving overall wellbeing,” Canice-Obi said.
She said that many people ignore their diets, hence they were predisposed to life-threatening diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and kidney disease, among others.
The founder stressed the need for people to eat more fruits and vegetables and avoid too many starchy foods and fizzy drinks.
“Too many starchy foods and fizzy drinks are somehow harmful to the body and should be avoided.”
According to Canice-Obi, her NGO is working with some organisations such as the International Trade Centre (ITC), SheTrades Initiative, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and a team of UK importers.
She said that she recently received a delegation from the organisations led by Michelle Kristy, who commended her NGO for promoting healthy living and wellness.
