Lagos: Nigeria’s para-volleyball team has emerged as champions of the maiden West Africa Zone A and B tournament after a commanding 3-0 win against Ghana, taking the sets 25-13, 25-20, and 25-22, securing the coveted crown and marking a historic triumph that reinforces the nation’s growing dominance in adaptive sports.
Team Nigeria earlier defeated the Niger Republic 3-0, taking the sets 25-13, 25-20, and 25-22.
Nigeria’s superior experience proved decisive once again as they secured a second straight victory to finish as overall winners of the regional tournament.
The team opened strongly, taking the first set 25-10. They maintained control with a 25-6 second set before sealing the match with a 25-16 finish.
Kayode Ladele, President of the Paravolley Federation of Nigeria (PFN), said the triumph confirmed the board’s commitment to developing the sport and reflected in the open.
“You cannot challenge victory; victory is victory,” Ladele stated, expressing satisfaction with the team’s performance and steady growth.
Head Coach Priscilla Agara thanked Ladele for consistently ensuring the team’s exposure to significant international competitions over recent seasons.
She described the win as a “massive one for Nigeria”, stressing that it reinforced the team’s status within the West African para volleyball landscape.
