Ondo Targets 2.2 Million Children in Statewide Measles, Rubella Vaccination Drive

Akure: The Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has announced plans to vaccinate 2.2 million children across all 18 Local Government Areas against measles and rubella.

The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Dr Francis Akanbiemu, said this on Thursday during a media sensitisation on measles/rubella vaccination.

Akanbiemu, represented by the Director of Disease Control and Immunisation in the agency, Dr Victor Adefesoye, said that the vaccination would hold from Jan. 20, 2026, to Jan. 29, 2026.

He said it would capture children aged 9 months to 14 years.

He said the vaccination would be administered by injection with no adverse effects.

Akanbiemu further said that the agency was prepared to address the challenges faced by each community to ensure a seamless vaccination.

According to him, there are punishments under the country’s laws to deter individuals, organisations, and groups that would seek to impede the exercise.

He therefore urged parents and custodians of children to release them for the exercise, which he said is free.

Also speaking, the  State Immunisation Officer, Mrs Florence Fadiji, said there would be fixed and mobile posts, where the targeted children could be vaccinated.

Fadiji urged media organisations to collaborate with the agency to spread the benefits of vaccination, which, she said, will further ensure the safety and well-being of children.
