Court Halts Awujale Installation in Ijebu-Ode

by Kehinde Adegoke

Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State: The High Court of Ogun State has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ogun State Government and other respondents from proceeding with the installation of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The order followed an ex parte motion filed by Otunba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Ayinde Adesanya Marshal (K1 De Ultimate), who claims his disqualification from the succession process was unlawful and violated his constitutional right to a fair hearing.

The High Court ruled that due process must be preserved, halting the installation until the substantive suit is determined.

Marshal, a member of the Fidipote Ruling House, argues that the process has been hijacked by an unrecognized “Interregnum Administrative Council” and that statutory requirements, including the publication of kingmakers, were ignored.

The ruling has sparked reactions across Ijebuland, where the Awujale stool remains vacant, intensifying the battle between tradition, politics, and the rule of law.
