Yola: Brig.-Gen. Amechi Agwu, Commander of the 23 Brigade, on Friday distributed cash and food items to 70 widows of fallen soldiers and Magajias, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of families left behind by its heroes.
The commander said the gesture is to support the beneficiaries’ families and enable them to celebrate the season with happiness.
He appreciated the widows for taking care of their families and the Magajias for their leadership in running the barracks’ affairs.
“This outreach is organized as a demonstration of my Command’s commitment and support towards these special breeds of individuals.
“Seasons like this bring promises of love, hope, and goodwill. We recognize that while the rest of us prepare for the forthcoming celebrations, others in our barracks community are painfully reminded of the void left by loved ones who paid the supreme price.
He said the gathering is not just about the handover of relief materials but also an expression of the unbreakable values that bind them together as a military family.
“Be reminded that your welfare, your dignity, and your peace of mind are absolutely central to the mission and morale of this Brigade”, he said.
He further commended the Chief of Army Staff for the support accorded to the Brigade, which enabled it to function effectively.
He assured their commitment to duty towards ensuring the safety of lives and properties within the area of their responsibility throughout the festive period and beyond.
Mrs Christina Patrick, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the gesture.
She prayed for the commander and the military to succeed in their duties and to protect the nation against its enemies.
