Abuja: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal and State Governments to take urgent and practical steps to safeguard citizens during the yuletide season and beyond, following the tragic Christmas Eve explosion in Maiduguri.
The party made the call in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, in Abuja on Thursday, while reacting to the Christmas Eve explosion in a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri.
Ememobong described the incident at Gamboru Market Mosque as “totally unacceptable,” warning that unchecked attacks on places of worship threaten Nigeria’s constitutional right to religious freedom and risk creating an atmosphere of fear.
Ememobong stressed that Nigerians deserve concrete, actionable security strategies deployed on the ground, not just rhetoric. He commiserated with families of victims, saying, “No one should lose their life while worshipping God.”
The PDP urged authorities to confront the menace of insecurity with urgency and seriousness, insisting that protecting lives and property must remain the government’s foremost responsibility.
