Abuja: Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has called on residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities during the festive season, stressing that Christmas should be marked in joy and security.
Wike made the call in his Christmas message in Abuja on Thursday.
He described Christmas as a season of joy, giving, sharing, and good neighbourliness.
He urged FCT residents to be mindful of their security responsibilities during the festivities as they go about their lawful duties, and to report any breach of security to the relevant agencies.
“You should be assured that the FCT Administration is doing its best to ensure the security of lives and property all through the festive period and beyond.
“Consequently, necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that FCT residents commemorate this occasion in a safe, secure, and joyful atmosphere,” he said
The minister also urged residents to see the Christmas period as one for sober reflection, and to ensure that they share glad tidings with fellow residents in a bid to foster harmony.
“I enjoin residents to use the occasion of Christmas to reflect and rededicate themselves to the virtues of love, unity, and peace, which are the recurrent themes of the message of Jesus Christ.
“The occasion also offers us a unique opportunity to pray for our leaders, and indeed, our country, Nigeria, that we may enjoy peace and progress in the coming years,” he said.
Wike also underscored the need to appreciate the good people of the FCT for their cooperation and support to the administration through 2025.
“Schools have been renovated, hospitals staffed and equipped, roads and bridges constructed in every area council, the judiciary supported, and security enhanced.
“Indeed, it has been a year of remarkable achievements, and we thank residents for their cooperation,” he said
He thanked President Bola Tinubu, as well as various partners and stakeholders, for their support in developing the FCT.
He reassured residents that the FCT administration would remain steadfast in its efforts to provide infrastructure and services that would positively impact residents in the territory.
