Ebonyi Police Arrest 1,733 Suspects, Recover Arms in 2025 Crackdown

Abakaliki: The Ebonyi State Police Command says it arrested 1,733 suspects linked to 913 offences across the state in 2025, underscoring its intensified crackdown on crime.

Public Relations Officer SP Joseph Ukandu disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the suspects comprised 1,624 males and 109 females. Of these, 844 suspects (822 males and 22 females) were investigated and charged in court in connection with 462 cases.

Ukandu listed major offences recorded during the year as murder, armed robbery, rape, theft, and unlawful possession of firearms. He added that the Command recovered 35 locally fabricated pistols and long guns, seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47s, and 149 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The Command also rescued nine kidnapped victims and recovered six stolen vehicles, including a Sino truck that was being vandalised for sale as scrap.

Commissioner of Police Adaku Uche-Anya commended officers and sister security agencies for their gallantry, pledging to consolidate on the gains in 2026. 

She said the Command would deepen community policing initiatives, strengthen synergy with other agencies, and enhance officers’ capacity through training while ensuring professionalism and civility in public interactions.
