Minna — The Niger State Police Command has pledged stronger collaboration with the Ministry of Mineral Resources to combat illegal mining, a practice increasingly linked to crime and insecurity in the state.
Commissioner of Police Adamu Elleman gave the assurance on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the Commissioner of Mineral Resources, Muhammed Danjuma, and his entourage in Minna.
Danjuma commended the Police Command for its efforts in sanitising the state against criminal elements, stressing that illegal mining has become a cover for miscreants to perpetrate chaos. He called for the revival of the illegal mining task force to enforce mining laws and ensure zero tolerance for offenders.
“The state is resolute to halt illegal mining, which is associated with crime and other vices. Reviving the task force will go a long way in achieving a peaceful environment and the vision of a new Niger,” Danjuma said.
In his remarks, CP Elleman welcomed the ministry’s renewed vision and assured them of improved partnership in tackling illegal mining. He noted that both institutions share the same objective of providing residents with a secure and peaceful environment.
The Police Commissioner urged the ministry to provide credible intelligence on illegal mining activities to enable swift intervention and prevent further damage to the state’s mineral assets.
