Abuja: The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent statement on the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections is connected to any leadership crisis within the party.
In a clarification issued on Saturday, party officials stressed that INEC’s pronouncement was strictly procedural and had no bearing on LP’s internal affairs.
They described attempts to tie the commission’s statement to factional disputes as misleading and intended to create unnecessary tension.
The party reaffirmed its unity and readiness for the forthcoming elections, urging members and supporters to disregard rumours and focus on strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of 2026.
LP leaders further noted that the party remains committed to democratic principles and internal cohesion, insisting that distractions over alleged crises will not derail preparations for the polls.
The statement underscores LP’s determination to project stability and confidence as it positions itself for stronger participation in the 2026 elections.
