Aliero, Kebbi State: The Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), Aliero, Kebbi, has marked a historic milestone with its maiden combined convocation, awarding degrees, diplomas, and certificates to 7,221 graduands spanning the 2010/2011 to 2023/2024 academic sessions.
Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Danshehu Bagudu described the event as a landmark in the university’s 19 years of uninterrupted academic activity.
He noted that since assuming office 16 months ago, his administration has focused on repositioning AFUSTA to rank among the world’s top universities, in line with the developmental aspirations of Kebbi State and Nigeria.
Earlier, the Chancellor and Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the state government for his appointment and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the institution’s growth. He emphasized that education remains fundamental to societal development and commended Kebbi State’s commitment to transforming the sector.
Governor Nasir Idris lauded AFUSTA’s achievements since its establishment in 2006, highlighting its role in manpower development within and beyond the state. He assured the university community that his administration would continue to prioritize education for sustainable growth.The ceremony also featured the formal investiture of Dr. Zayyanu-Abdullahi as Chancellor and the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on eminent Nigerians. Honourees included Governor Idris (Doctor of Education), Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto (Doctor of Technology), Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara (Doctor of Science), Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo (Doctor of Engineering), and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III (Doctor of Computer Science), among others.
