Samuel Eto’o, who leads the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), received a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after being accused of misconduct during Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal loss to Morocco.
FECAFOOT confirmed the punishment on Wednesday, saying it had received CAF’s disciplinary decision but criticized it for not giving a clear reason. The federation also questioned how quickly the process moved, saying it did not allow for a fair hearing.
Earlier, CAF said it was looking into incidents during the quarterfinals, including Cameroon’s game against Morocco and Algeria’s match with Nigeria. Although CAF did not share details, Eto’o’s noticeable gestures toward Moroccan FA president Fouzi Lekjaa during the match stood out, especially since CAF president Patrice Motsepe was sitting close by.
Despite the decision, FECAFOOT said it fully supports Eto’o and remains committed to upholding fair disciplinary standards.
