Lassa Fever: Citizens Urged to Avoid Rats, Maintain Hygiene

Akwanga (Nasarawa State, Nigeria):  The Proprietor of Nacabs Polytechnic, Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Mr David Abuluya, has advised the residents of the state to avoid contact with rats and maintain a hygienic environment to avoid contracting Lassa Fever and other diseases.

This, the proprietor said, was in their health’s interest and for the overall development of the state.

The proprietor made the call on Friday in Akwanga during an interview with newsmen on the school’s environmental cleanliness.

Abuluya said that an unhygienic environment was harmful to human health, hence the need for all to keep their environments clean.

The institution’s founder said people should prevent rats from contaminating food to avoid contracting Lassa Fever and other diseases.

” Store all food items and water in rodent-proof containers.

Cover all food and water properly,” he urged.

Abuluya, the Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Nasarawa State. expressed happiness that the school’s environment was too clean.

He said, ” As you can see, the school environment is clean, that is what I always preach to the staff and students.

” Let’s maintain strict hygiene, which includes personal and environmental cleanliness, proper disposal of garbage far from the home, and general environmental sanitation,” he said

Abuluya, the President of Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), also advised citizens to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the interest of their health.
