Lagos: Dr Adedeji Adeleke, father of music star David Adeleke (popularly known as Davido), has revealed that, despite DNA results confirming there is no biological relationship, he continues to sponsor the education of Anuoluwapo — the girl who claimed Davido is her father — as well as her mother.
Speaking at a news conference in Lagos on Wednesday, Dr Adeleke said the briefing was necessary to clarify reports suggesting Anuoluwapo is Davido’s daughter, despite DNA evidence proving otherwise.
He explained that Anuoluwapo’s aunt, a scientist, had contacted him for assistance. After verifying the DNA results, she appealed to him not as a family member but as someone known for supporting education through his Springtime Foundation.
“She told me she knew I had helped many people go to school. I asked about the girl’s school fees, and sent a little more than required so she could buy a computer and other essentials. Though I have never met the aunt, she has been very responsible and kind,” Adeleke said.
Dr Adeleke noted that he currently sponsors no fewer than 3,000 students under his scholarship scheme.
He added that beyond supporting Anuoluwapo, he also enrolled her mother in Adeleke University under a mature students’ programme, providing accommodation and a monthly stipend of ₦50,000. However, she dropped out in her second year despite maintaining good grades in English.
“Her records show she was doing well until she left. The opportunity remains open if she wishes to return,” he said.
Adeleke further suggested that if Anuoluwapo’s mother resumes her studies, her daughter could also be enrolled in Adeleke University High School on scholarship, ensuring both remain in the same environment and easing the burden on the grandmother.
