Abuja: The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed deep condolences to Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, over the death of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi.
Mr Sunday Ndidi reportedly died in a motor accident, throwing the Nigerian football family into mourning on Tuesday.
A statement signed by Kehinde Ajayi, Director, Information and Public Relations at the NSC, quoted the NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, as describing the loss as shocking.
He noted that Ndidi shared a close bond with his father, who played a vital role in shaping his football career and personal discipline.
According to Olopade, Ndidi’s patriotic service to Nigeria and success in European club football reflect the strong values instilled by his parents.
Olopade urged the sports community to remember the Ndidi family in prayers.
“On behalf of the Chairman of the NSC, Shehu Dikko and the Nigerian Sports family, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to Wilfred Ndidi and his family for the unfortunate loss.
“I know for a fact how close Wilfred Ndidi was to his father and the role the man played in the success story of his son.
“Wilfred Ndidi has been a patriotic servant for our great country over the years, playing for the Super Eagles and also representing Nigeria in a good light, playing club football in Europe.
“All these are a product of the kind of upbringing he was given by his parents,” Olopade said.
The commission pledged to collaborate with the Nigeria Football Federation to provide specific assistance and emotional support to the Ndidi family during this difficult period.
