TCN Unveils 75MVA Transformer at Abakaliki Substation, Ebonyi

Abuja: The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Enugu Region, has commissioned a new 75 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA), 132/33 Kilo Volt (KV) power transformer at its Mile 50 Abakaliki Transmission Substation in Ebonyi State, boosting electricity capacity in the region.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mbah further explained that the transformer project is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at enhancing power supply in Nigeria.

According to her, the inauguration had boosted the substation’s capacity to 135 MVA, enhancing its wheeling capacity and enabling more bulk power supply to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company in Ebonyi State and parts of Cross River State.

The General Manager, Transmission, Enugu Region. Mr Thomas Inugonum said that TCN had approved the procurement of a new 60 MVA power transformer to replace a decommissioned, leaking unit.

He said this would add 48 Megawatts  to the substation’s capacity upon completion.
