Ex‑Minister’s Defection Rocks Adamawa Politics

Hong, Adamawa: Adamawa witnessed a seismic political realignment on Saturday when Dr Idi Hong, once Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, formally defected from the PDP to the APC in Hong, reshaping the state’s political landscape.

Hong, also a former Minister of State for Health, announced his defection Saturday in his hometown, Hong, to supporters and associates.

He said the move followed extensive consultations with his political team and loyalists across the state.

Hong said staying in the PDP no longer served his supporters or their goals.

“I cannot let myself and my followers be held back by a party losing direction.

“The move aims to advance development in the state and country,” he said.

Hong said the APC offered a stronger platform to achieve his goals and that he would share his experience to strengthen the party.

He told his political network to leave the PDP and join the APC in full, assuring them of his commitment to victory in 2027.

Welcoming him, Idris Shuaibu, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), represented by Hassan Babuto, assured Hong of equal rights and opportunities in the APC.

“In APC, we do not discriminate. By virtue of your registration, you are qualified to contest any position you wish,” Babuto said.

Aliyu Ahmed, APC Chairman in Hong LGA, pledged party support for Hong in any role he chooses.

Ahmed described APC as peaceful and inclusive, and said Hong registered in Shangui Ward of Hong LGA.
