Defence Minister Charges Troops to Keep up Offensive against Terrorists

Gusau: Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, called on Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) troops in Zamfara to maintain strong momentum against bandits and terrorists, urging continued determination in their operations.

Musa issued the directive during an operational assessment visit to the operation’s headquarters in Gusau on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on arriving in the state, the minister inaugurated Armoured Personnel Carriers and the new Armoury at the Gusau Government House.

The armoured personnel carriers and the armoury were procured by the Zamfara Government.

Speaking to the troops at Joint Taskforce Headquarters, Musa commended their resilience and emphasised that sustained pressure on bandits was essential to preventing criminal groups from regrouping.

MusMusa said the visit aimed to review security, assess current operations, and strengthen agency cooperation. 

I challenge you to go beyond routine duties—take decisive action with unwavering integrity to eliminate threats and secure lasting peace.”

“Make full, lawful use of all available facilities to proactively advance your mandate in safeguarding lives and property.”

“As Army personnel, you should uphold the highest standards of operational discipline and respect for human rights”, he explained.

He emphasised, “How you conduct your operations will decide the lasting impact of these investments and whether they result in improved public trust and lasting security gains.”

The minister assured Zamfara residents that all levels of government are coordinating efforts to improve security. I urge everyone: embrace your role in security. 

Step forward, share information, remain vigilant, and actively partner with authorities.

“Community cooperation through credible information sharing and collective vigilance is indispensable in preventing crime, disrupting criminal networks and sustaining peace.

“There is no doubt that when citizens and security agencies work together in trust and mutual confidence, operational effectiveness increases significantly.

“Timely information, responsible engagement and respect for lawful authority strengthen our collective capacity. 

Together, we protect lives, secure communities and preserve the stability on which development depends,” Musa added.

The minister appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support of national security institutions and for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the security architecture across the federation.
