President Tinubu, German Chancellor Merz to Collaborate on Security, Power
President Bola Tinubu and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have resolved to improve bilateral relations and strengthen collaboration in the security, energy, and railway sectors.
During a Wednesday afternoon telephone conversation, the leaders pledged to collaborate on creative arts and skills development.
President Tinubu discussed the Presidential Power Initiative with the German Chancellor and requested assistance with power transmission.
The German Chancellor assured that Siemens stands ready to assist, and Deutsche Bank plans to finance the project.
The two leaders also expressed worry over the situation in the Sahel region. President Tinubu called for the provision of used helicopters to support intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance in the region.
President Tinubu emphasised the need for intelligence support and reconnaissance in the Sahel corridor.
Nigeria and Germany have maintained diplomatic relations for up to 65 years.
German Chancellor Merz said his country eagerly anticipates the arrival of Nigeria’s new ambassador.
He emphasised the importance of the arts and advocated establishing the Great Museum of African Arts.
The telephone conversation began at 2.01 pm and ended around 2.10 pm.
