Lagos: The Federal Government says repair works on damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will begin on March 10.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

He said the maintenance work would take place on the outbound Lagos section of the Kara Bridge, between Chainage 5+350 and 6+115.

Komolafe said the repair works, directed by the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, would last two weeks and end on March 24.

According to him, there will be a partial closure of the affected section during the period, resulting in a narrowed road width for vehicles travelling outward from Lagos.

The ministry said the measure was necessary to enable engineers to replace the damaged expansion joints and ensure the bridge’s safety and durability.

He strongly encouraged motorists to plan ahead, consider alternative routes, and act promptly to help reduce traffic congestion during the repair period.

Motorists travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan are advised to use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes.

“Those travelling from Lagos Island can access Sagamu, Ibadan, and Mowe by following the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode, which connects to these destinations.

Komolafe, however, noted that a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest during the repair works.

He urged all motorists to strictly obey traffic management directives and remain vigilant for safety at the work zone, underscoring the importance of compliance for everyone’s safety.

The controller called on all road users to cooperate with officials and each other during this period, expressing regret over any inconvenience and appealing directly for understanding and partnership.
