The Kwara Government has received 400 Wash and Dignity Kits from UNICEF to aid victims of the Woro terrorist attacks in Kaiama Local Government Area.

On February 2026, terrorists attacked the Woro community, where several inhabitants were gruesomely murdered, including pregnant women and children.

Speaking at the handing over of the items on Saturday in Ilorin, the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, Dr Gerida Birukila, explained that a team from the Kaduna UNICEF office visited the community to assess the degree of destruction in the wake of the terror onslaught on the local community.

Birukila mourned the departed souls and called on the authorities to expedite action on negotiations for the release of those abducted.

According to her, the items were donated to mitigate the effects of the crisis on the victims.

Birukila also said that another batch of 1000 Wash and Dignity Kits would be sent to the state for donation to the victims in the coming week.

“Some of the items we have given are to support the community. Like the dignity kits, maternity kits, amongst others.

“An emergency health team has been established and is looking after people. But it is not enough because of what is happening,” she said, noting that many parents’ main wish is for their loved ones to return.

She called for the immediate release of abducted community members, especially young ones and pregnant women in need of care.

“That is necessary for them to deliver safely. So, we hope that they will heed this,” she appealed.

Birukila further appealed to philanthropists, corporate bodies, and others to support members of the Woro community.

According to her, UNICEF’s intervention brought real hope to members of the Woro community.

“The world has heard what happened in Kaiama, and they know that they are not alone. Efforts to bring back loved ones are ongoing, she said.

Responding, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Yunusa Lade, said the donation would bring succour and address the problems faced by victims of the Woro attacks.

While expressing appreciation to UNICEF for the donation, Lade urged other global agencies to emulate the gesture, as the government cannot shoulder the responsibility alone.

“This intervention is very laudable. We understand that it will not eliminate the grief they are currently going through, but at least, it will give succour to people who have been affected in the unfortunate incident in terms of relief and other necessary things that have been brought, which are the Wash and Dignity Kits,” he said.

In his remarks, the General Manager of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Mr Olufemi Oladipo, described the donation of the kits as a welcome development.

Oladipo seized the opportunity to solicit UNICEF’s support for his agency to provide potable water to rural communities in the state.

He also appealed for increased support from international agencies and private individuals to help alleviate the suffering of people in the Woro community.

Some of the items donated by UNICEF included bathing soaps, laundry detergent, nail clippers, washing lines, safety pins, plastic soap containers, and towels, among others.
