Abuja: The Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a bold call to President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s security chiefs: embrace a “whole-of-society” strategy to stem the tide of violence and restore peace.
Citing Nigeria’s alarming fourth-place ranking in the newly released Global Terrorism Index 2026, the PDP warned that urgent, coordinated action is needed to halt escalating attacks and safeguard lives across the country.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ini Ememobong, who stated this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, advised the government to address the security challenge proactively.
Ememobong said that the advice was critical, following the just-released Global Terrorism Index 2026 by the Institute for Economics and Peace.
He noted that in the report, Nigeria was ranked fourth in the world on the impact of terrorism survey and one of the two countries with the highest number of deaths from terrorism. Ememobong called for immediate programmes and policies to deliver negative peace. This means a cessation of attacks and incidents. He also called for steps to build positive peace through voluntary, unforced, harmonious co-existence.
According to him, the primary duty of every government is to protect lives and property.
He therefore called on the president to deploy his ‘political mastery’ to address the country’s security challenge.
