Wike to PDP Members: Loyalty Before Convention or Be Sidelined

by Kehinde Adegoke

Abuja: Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has warned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to demonstrate loyalty ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29–30.

Speaking at the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike said those who fail to show commitment before the convention should not expect to be welcomed afterwards.

“After this NEC meeting, anybody who doesn’t show commitment to the convention, don’t come back after the event and say you are fully back. I will not accept that,” he declared.

The minister stressed the need for unity and reconciliation within the party, urging leaders to avoid unnecessary internal conflicts. He cautioned members against treating politics like business ventures, saying his motivation was power, not contracts.

“A fight you can’t fight, don’t start it,” Wike said. “Politics differs from contractual work. My motivation in politics is to seek power, not to act as a contractor. You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor.”

Wike’s remarks underscore the stakes for PDP members as the convention approaches, with loyalty and discipline set to determine influence in the party’s next phase.
