Ilobu: The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 14 additional suspects in connection with the violent attack on its personnel in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area.
The arrests mark a significant escalation in the ongoing investigation, as authorities intensify efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command’s spokesperson, shared this in a Sunday statement in Osogbo.
Ojelabi said that after the initial incident on Thursday, the ongoing investigation led to the arrest of an additional 14 suspects, bringing the total to 18.
He explained that the police used intelligence gathering to identify and apprehend the suspects, who had fled after committing the crime.
He said police recovered one single-barreled gun, one live cartridge, and one cutlass from the suspects.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to upholding citizens’ human rights and assured that authorities would prosecute those involved in the crime to deter others. Ojelabi said authorities are also working to track and arrest fleeing suspects.
He urged the public to obey the law and avoid actions that might undermine order.
The spokesperson asked residents to quickly provide useful information to help police operations in the state.
On Thursday, before these arrests, the command reported that its personnel—who had intervened to maintain peace between Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities—were attacked by hoodlums. A video now circulates showing the assault on police officers during this operation in the area.
