Lagos: An electric spark on Wednesday compelled the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to divert flights from Terminal 3 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

The FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire, said in a statement in Lagos that the terminal was shut following a spark in an operational office, which caused smoke to be emitted at 2.05 p.m.

Agbebire noted that, following the incident, electrical maintenance began in the afternoon and would continue until all systems function optimally ahead of the terminal’s reopening.

He added that, as of that afternoon, all flights operating from Terminal 3 had been diverted to Terminal 2. Passengers are hereby advised accordingly.

The situation is under control as Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services personnel promptly contained the incident, he added.
