UNILAG Alumni Lift FCT Students with Scholarships

Abuja: Twenty-eight struggling but talented FCT students saw their hopes revived Thursday as the University of Lagos Alumni Association paid their fees and WAEC/NECO costs.

The scholarship covers school fees, levies, WAEC and NECO exams.

Vice Chairperson of the association, Mrs Julia Davis, said during the event in Abuja on Thursday that 28 students, including children with special needs, were selected based on academic excellence and verified financial need.

Each scholarship fully covers WAEC, NECO, and yearly school fees.

“This scholarship award is the third edition, and we will continue to support intelligent students from indigent households,” she said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Mr Emmanuel Emele, explained that the primary beneficiaries were indigent SS 3 students who demonstrated strong academic performance and could not afford exam or school fees.

Dr Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, commended the association for the gesture.

Represented by the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Hajiya Fatima Babba, the mandate secretary noted that many students struggle to pay their fees.

He said the scholarship will ease parents’ burden of exam and school fees.

Hayyo called on more NGOs and individuals to join in removing financial barriers to education.
