Kano: The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) launched a sweeping single-day crackdown on five drug dens across Kano on Friday, arresting 21 suspects, seizing cannabis, codeine-laced cough syrup and locally-made weapons — and overpowering suspects who violently resisted operatives during the raids.

This resulted in the arrest of 21 suspects and the seizure of drugs and weapons.

The statement was issued Sunday in Kano by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.

State Commander Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal said the action followed the recent donation of three operational vehicles by the Kano State Government.

The arrests occurred on April 11 at drug joints in Filin Idi, Hotoro, Mariri, Fagge, and Farm Centre on Zaria Road.

Recovered items included cannabis, pregabalin capsules, codeine cough syrup, rubber solution inhalant, and locally-made weapons.

Some suspects attempted to attack, but operatives disarmed and detained them.

Investigations continue to identify major dealers and prepare cases for prosecution.

He noted the vehicles have improved operational capacity.

The vehicles enabled wider coverage and faster intelligence response.

We will continue using these assets for visible operations against illicit drugs.

All involved should desist before it is too late, Yahaya-Lawal warned.

NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug abuse and urged public support with credible information.
