Court Strikes out Charge against Man over Receiving Stolen Property

Abuja: A Life Camp Magistrates’ court in Abuja on Friday struck out a charge preferred against a 55-year-old man, Salisu Usman, bordering on receiving stolen property.

The Magistrate, Best Ojukwu, struck out the charge and discharged the defendant following an application by the prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu.

She asked the court to strike out the case because the parties had settled out of court and the complainant had withdrawn.

“Upon hearing the prosecutor’s application to strike out the case due to a settlement by both parties, the case is hereby struck out,” she said.

Following the complainant’s voluntary withdrawal, the court struck out the First Information Report (FIR) against the defendant and warned him to desist from committing any future criminal acts.

According to the charges, Usman, of Gwari Village, Mpape, Abuja, was accused of receiving stolen property and was consequently detained.

Nwachukwu said that on Nov 13, 2025, the defendant received stolen properties from one Felix Nnamdi, who had dishonestly made away with the complainant’s properties worth one million naira.

The prosecutor said that during the investigation, the defendant gave a confessional statement admitting the charge.

She said that a 1mm single wire worth N23,500 was eventually recovered.

The offence contravenes the provision of section 317 of the Penal Code
