Yero, Shehu Sani, Katung Sweep Kaduna APC Senatorial Primaries

Kaduna: In a major political shakeup ahead of 2027, former Governor Ramalan Mukhtar Yero, Sen. Shehu Sani, and Sen. Sunday Katung have swept the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in Kaduna State, solidifying their bids for the upper chamber.

In the Kaduna North Senatorial District, Yero won the APC primary election with 6,060 votes to defeat Muazu Mukaddas, who scored 1,044 votes, while Bala Ikara polled 362 votes.

For the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani secured victory after polling 9,105 votes.

Additionally, the Returning Officer, Samira Jibrin, announced that Yusuf Zailani garnered 1,021 votes, while Shettima Yerima, who had withdrawn from the race, polled 1,253 votes.

Speaking with journalists after the exercise, Sani expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State for their support.

“There is no better representation of the people of Kaduna State than me being their lawmaker and Uba Sani being the governor,” he said.

The former senator also thanked his supporters for giving him another opportunity to represent them and commended Yerima for stepping down from the race.

He urged all aspirants to unite and work for the APC’s success in the forthcoming elections.

Sani pledged to focus on addressing poverty, unemployment and other national challenges through effective representation and attracting more federal projects to the constituency.

Meanwhile, in the Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sen. Sunday Katung emerged the winner of the primary election, defeating former Sen. Danjuma Laah and Michael Ayuba.

Announcing the results at the collation centre in Jema’a Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.

According to him, Katung polled 7,453 votes to defeat Laah, who received 1,370, while Auta secured 878.

Reacting to the outcome, Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Joseph Bege Gaiya, described the result as a reflection of the wishes of the grassroots and a demonstration of the party’s internal democracy.

Gaiya expressed confidence in APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.

He also called on aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation and party unity for the party’s progress.
