Abuja: Former Senator Sandy Onor has been unveiled as the consensus presidential candidate of the Nyesom Wike‑backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections.
“I take this responsibility very seriously. I shall fly the PDP flag with energy, courage, competence, and intellectual depth. I shall do it with a pan‑Nigerian disposition in all that I do,” Onor declared in his acceptance speech.
He pledged to run an issue‑based, grassroots‑driven campaign to tackle insecurity and poverty head‑on. “We cannot be poor in the midst of so much. Through selfless leadership, discipline, and accountability, we can arrest this poverty monster and make our people happy again,” he emphasised.
Onor identified Nigeria’s leadership deficit as the nation’s greatest challenge, vowing to transform the country into the “giant of Africa” envisioned at independence.
Earlier, Samuel Ortom, Chairman of the 2026 PDP Presidential Primary Election Committee, announced Onor’s emergence, noting that the decision was reached after extensive consultations across the 36 states and the FCT.
