Abuja: President Bola Tinubu congratulated Rangers International FC on clinching their record ninth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.
Tinubu praised the players, coaching staff, management, and supporters of the Enugu-based club for securing the league title with 68 points from 38 matches.
Presidential Spokesperson Mr Bayo Onanuga issued the statement on Monday in Abuja.
The President recalled Rangers’ dominance in Nigerian football during the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting the club’s multiple league and FA Cup victories.
He also highlighted the club’s appearance in the 1975 African Cup of Champions Clubs final and their triumph in the 1977 African Cup Winners’ Cup.
“I must also congratulate Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State on the victory of Rangers International FC.
He added, “This victory is a direct result of his administration’s investment in youth and sports. I commend him.”
Tinubu described Rangers as one of Nigeria’s most storied and successful football clubs, renowned for producing exceptional talent for the country.
He highlighted Rangers’ contribution to producing prominent football players who made Nigeria proud globally.
He said, “Rangers have produced many of the nation’s best players, who have made the country proud globally. I am proud of their achievement.”
The President also commended Rivers United for their strong performance and sportsmanship throughout the league campaign.
He wished both Rangers and Rivers United success as they represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
