Nigeria’s Super Eagles won their fourth Unity Cup title with a strong 3-0 win over Jamaica at The Valley in south London on Saturday.
While most eyes were on Budapest for the Champions League final, the Super Eagles gave fans something to cheer about closer to home.
Alhassan Yusuf stood out by scoring two goals, helping Eric Chelle’s team take control.
Terem Moffi scored the third goal with a header from a well-placed Femi Azeez cross as Nigeria extended their lead in the second half.
Although the match was not consistently high quality, Nigeria’s young players showed moments of skill that Jamaica could not match.
Jamaica appealed for a penalty after Arthur Okwonkwo collided with Kaheim Dixon, but the referee did not award it, and they never seriously challenged Nigeria’s lead.
Yusuf scored again in stoppage time to secure the win and show Nigeria’s dominance, as the Super Eagles kept their title and lifted the Unity Cup again. Even though they will not play in this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the team gave their fans something to celebrate before the off-season.
