Nigeria wants its universities and creative industries to drive economic growth by turning intellectual property into valuable financial assets.
During a meeting in Abuja, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima and WIPO Director-General Daren Tang agreed to work more closely to help turn Nigerian research into commercial products and grow the creative economy.
The partnership will provide more technical support, stronger backing from institutions, and training so that new ideas from Nigerian universities and creative people can earn money around the world.
Officials believe this plan could unlock billions of dollars in value, help Nigeria rely less on oil, and raise its profile in global intellectual property.
emphasised that the collaboration intends not only to protect ideas but also to turn them into lucrative ventures that drive jobs, investment, and long-term growth.
