In a swift and decisive operation, Nigerian Army troops rescued 23 passengers abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ayegunle–Bunu Road in Kogi State.

The intervention, carried out by MetroTroops, thwarted the criminals’ plans and ensured the safe return of all victims, reinforcing the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and restoring security across the region.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that armed men blocked the road and attacked travellers around 3:30 am on Monday.

The attackers reportedly abducted several passengers at the scene. Soldiers of the 12 Brigade in Kabba received a distress call shortly after the incident and responded.

When troops arrived, the kidnappers had already escaped. Soldiers found two dead bodies and five injured victims at the site. Two Toyota commercial buses and a HOWO truck were also found abandoned by the roadside.

A source said: “The troops then immediately launched a pursuit operation, which led to the rescue of 23 abducted passengers.”

The rescued victims reached safety, and the injured were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kabba for treatment.

Military sources said troops are tracking down the fleeing attackers and working to rescue any remaining victims. They have intensified surveillance and clearance operations in the area to prevent further attacks.

The Ayegunle–Bunu axis has recently seen repeated cases of kidnapping and banditry, prompting the military to respond more forcefully.
