Super Eagles Soar: Nigeria Ranked 26th Globally, 3rd in Africa

by Toye Faleye

For Nigerian fans, the latest FIFA rankings are more than just numbers on a chart — they’re a reflection of pride, resilience, and the belief that the Super Eagles can stand tall among football’s elite.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have held firm at 26th in the world, according to the rankings released Thursday.

It’s a position that keeps them in the upper tier of global football, despite the ups and downs of recent matches.

Supporters see it as proof that the team remains competitive on the world stage, even as they continue to rebuild and refine their identity.

Éric Chelle’s men have been busy, giving fans plenty to talk about. At the Unity Cup in London, the Eagles swept past Zimbabwe 2‑0 and dazzled with a 3‑0 win against Jamaica.

Those victories reminded supporters of the team’s attacking flair and defensive grit. The friendlies that followed were a rollercoaster: a thrilling 2‑2 draw against Poland in Warsaw had fans buzzing, while the narrow 2‑1 loss to Portugal in Leiria left many proud of the team’s fight against one of Europe’s giants.

“We showed heart,” one Lagos supporter said after watching the Portugal game. “That’s the Nigeria we want to see.”

On the African continent, Nigeria remains the third‑highest ranked team, trailing only Morocco and Senegal

Algeria sit fourth, Egypt fifth. For Nigerian fans, this is both a badge of honour and a challenge — proof that the Eagles are still among Africa’s best, but also a reminder of the fierce competition ahead.

Globally, the top five remain unchanged: Argentina leads, followed by Spain, France, England, and Portugal.

Nigeria’s 26th place may not yet put them in the same bracket, but it signals stability and potential. For a nation that lives and breathes football, it’s a platform to build on.

The rankings are more than statistics; they’re motivation. With qualifiers looming, the Super Eagles know every match is a chance to climb higher.

Fans across Nigeria — from the bustling streets of Lagos to the football‑mad communities in Enugu and Kano — are already dreaming of what the next update might bring.

The next FIFA rankings will be published on July 20, and supporters will be watching closely. For now, the Super Eagles remain a team that inspires hope, pride, and belief — soaring high both regionally and globally.
