Centre Calls for Diplomatic Measures to End Ukraine-Russia Hostilities

Abuja: The Centre for Wounded Servicemen and Fallen Heroes Supports Fund (CFWS&FHSF) has called for an urgent diplomatic action and international collaboration to halt the hostilities between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Mr Ezekiel Adi, the centre’s Executive Secretary, made the call in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, saying this was critical to rebuilding trust and opening the doors to reconciliation.

He condoled with the Governments and people of Ukraine and the Russian Federation over the losses of their gallant officers and some citizens in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

Adi stressed that history would not only remember the courage of the soldiers who fought, but also the leaders who chose peace when war became unbearable.

He urged global leaders, peace advocates, and human rights organisations to join their voices in calling for an immediate end to the war.

“The time for silence has passed; humanity must now speak with one voice, the voice of peace,” the executive secretary said.

Adi stated that recently, the remains of thousands of fallen heroes were returned to the Government of Ukraine. At the same time, hundreds of courageous soldiers also lost their lives on the Russian side.

He described the situation as a heartbreaking tragedy that continued to consume lives, dreams, and futures on both sides of the divide.

Adi added, “Ukraine had lost thousands of her sons and daughters, while Russia too had lost hundreds of her brave officers and men; these are not mere numbers.

“They are human souls with families, aspirations, and stories now cut short by war; the tragic losses underscored the need to bring this devastating conflict to an end.”

He said while most countries had remained silent despite the increasing tolls of deaths, the centre would not remain silent while the blood of humanity continued to flow unchecked.

“Every hour adds to the list of widows, orphans, and grieving families.

“We therefore plead with the Russian Government to give peace a chance, let the guns go silent so that life can speak again,” Adi said.

He emphasised that both Russian and Ukrainian lives were sacred before God, stressing that no victory achieved through endless bloodshed could bring true peace.

The centre, a Non-Governmental Organisation, provides care, support, and empowerment for wounded service members and families of fallen heroes.

Its objective is to ensure that their sacrifices are honoured and their welfare is upheld through advocating for their needs, securing support for rehabilitation and education, providing livelihood skills, and remembering their contributions to the nation.
