Gombe: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of seven persons in a lone auto crash that occurred on the Billiri–Gombe Road in Ladongor community, Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Sector Commander Samson Kaura said the accident involved a Toyota Hummer bus (NUJ–01) and was caused by a suspected tyre burst around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Of the seven victims, five were staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Gombe, including two senior managers in charge of Administration and News. They were reportedly returning from a colleague’s wedding in Kaltungo when tragedy struck.
Four other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Amana Clinic and General Hospital, Billiri, before being referred to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe.
Kaura advised motorists to always check tyre expiry dates to avoid bursts, stressing that expired tyres remain a major cause of fatal crashes. He also extended condolences to the NTA management and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) family in the state.
