The regulator disclosed this in its December commercial performance factsheet published on its website in Abuja on Saturday.

Of the total billed, N207.49 billion was collected, resulting in a revenue shortfall of N51.17 billion.

This reflects a collection efficiency of 80.22 per cent across the companies.

The factsheet said the utilities received N309.65 billion in electricity from the grid in December.

However, of the electricity worth N309.65 billion received from the grid, only N258.66 billion was successfully billed to customers, showing a billing efficiency of 83.53 per cent.

The actual average revenue for DisCos was N98.97 per kilowatt hour, compared to an allowed average tariff of N124.30, resulting in an industry revenue recovery efficiency of 79.62 per cent.

This means the actual average revenue per kilowatt hour realised by DisCos (N98.97) is lower than the allowed average tariff (N124.30 per kilowatt hour), yielding a revenue recovery efficiency of 79.62 per cent.

A breakdown showed that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest revenue collection during the month.

Abuja DisCo collected N38.11 billion (81.64 per cent), Ikeja N36.20 billion (83.38 per cent), and Eko N38.01 billion (91.79 per cent).

Ikeja Electric collected N36.20 billion out of N43.41 billion billed, achieving a collection efficiency of 83.38 per cent.

Kaduna DisCo data was unavailable due to an ongoing billing system upgrade to meet regulatory requirements, the commission said.

Benin, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, and Enugu DisCos each collected significant amounts, while Kano, Yola, and Jos had lower collection efficiencies.

Benin DisCo collected N18.38 billion, Port Harcourt N17.62 billion, Ibadan N23.60 billion, and Enugu N17.57 billion.

Also, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company collected N23.60 billion from N28.34 billion billed.

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company realised N17.57 billion from N23.08 billion billed during the review period.

Kano DisCo collected N8.98 billion (57.45 per cent collection efficiency). Yola realised N3.55 billion from N4.25 billion billed, while Jos had the lowest efficiency at 42.92 per cent with N5.43 billion collected from N12.67 billion billed.

The report added that Yola Electricity Distribution Company realised N3.55 billion from N4.25 billion billed.

Jos DisCo had the lowest collection efficiency at 42.92 per cent.

It said the company collected N5.43 billion from N12.67 billion billed in December.

The commission, however, noted that data for the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company was unavailable.

It attributed the gap to an ongoing upgrade of the company’s billing system to meet regulatory requirements.
