Awe, Oyo State: The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed Bond Chemicals Industries Ltd, for repeated violations of national environmental regulations.
Bond Chemical Industries Limited is located at Plot 20-26, Adesakin Layout, Asaba, Awe, Oyo State.
NESREA’s Assistant Director of Press, Mrs Nwamaka Ejiofor, said the enforcement action followed public complaints, independently verified, about the company’s discharge of untreated effluent into the environment.
A compliance inspection on February 18 revealed that the facility lacked a functional effluent treatment plant and was discharging foul-smelling wastewater directly into the surrounding environment. Despite directives to install and operate proper treatment systems and secure the required permits, Bond Chemicals failed to comply.
A follow‑up inspection confirmed continued violations, prompting NESREA to seal the facility to halt further environmental damage and protect public health.
Director‑General of NESREA, Prof. Innocent Barikor, reiterated that all industry operators must fully comply with environmental standards, including installing and properly operating pollution control equipment. He stressed that the agency will intensify nationwide monitoring and enforcement, warning that violators will face strict sanctions.
NESREA emphasised that the facility will remain shut until full compliance is achieved. The agency urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report violations, noting that community involvement is vital to safeguarding the environment.
