Abakaliki: The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki is in mourning after the death of its Bishop, Most Rev Peter Nworie, who passed away at 60 — just three years after being consecrated and installed as the diocese’s third bishop in 2021.
The notification of his death is contained in a statement issued to journalists on Friday by the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Donatus Chukwu, on behalf of the Diocese.
The statement read,” I write to notify you that our beloved bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev Peter Nworie, has returned to the father’s house.
It conveyed deep sorrow and commended the late bishop to God’s mercy.
According to the statement, Bishop Nworie was born on Nov. 5, 1965, ordained a priest on July 3, 1993, and consecrated and installed as the third bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki on Aug. 19, 2021.
The diocese urged priests, religious, and the faithful to pray for Bishop Nworie and the diocesan family during the period of mourning.
The statement further stated that funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
