Abuja: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, defeating Liverpool 4-0 on aggregate. Ousmane Dembele scored twice at Anfield to ensure PSG’s progression.
PSG, who held a two-goal advantage from the first leg, were tested by Liverpool in a lively encounter at Anfield.
Liverpool created scoring opportunities, with Marquinhos clearing Virgil van Dijk’s effort off the line, while Alexis Mac Allister had a penalty decision overturned following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.
Liverpool Manager, Arne Slot, first made a substitution by introducing Mohamed Salah for the injured Hugo Ekitike. Later, he brought on Alexander Isak to further spark a comeback.
Subsequent changes, such as Joe Gomez replacing Rio Ngumoha, raised the tempo. However, despite these adjustments, PSG’s clinical finishing proved decisive.
Dembele extended PSG’s lead in the 72nd minute, cutting inside to curl a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from outside the box.
Dembele completed his brace in stoppage time, calmly finishing from Bradley Barcola’s cross to secure PSG’s dominant win.
PSG will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the semi-finals, as Coach Luis Enrique’s side extended their winning run to six matches.
Liverpool, meanwhile, exited the competition and will now focus on securing a top-five finish in the English Premier League to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
