Abuja: Dr. Ahmed Audi, Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has tasked personnel with effectively protecting all Critical National Assets and infrastructure (CNAI) as Nigeria marks its 26th Democracy Day.

This is contained in a statement by the NSCDC Spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to Afolabi, the CG had ordered a full-scale security beef-up across the federation.

He added that the proactive approach followed rumours of planned peaceful protest on June 12 in some federation states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

While addressing the senior officers of the Corps, the NSCDC CG directed them to deploy their personnel adequately.

“To this end, you are directed to place your officers and men on red alert at all flash points, venues of the planned protests, public gatherings, recreational centres, and muster points.

“We must ensure adequate protection of government facilities to avert all forms of breakdown of law and order by criminally minded individuals who will often hijack peaceful protest to actualise their nefarious activities,” he said.

Audi added that to achieve adequate security coverage; the NSCDC would collaborate with sister security agencies to uphold law and order and ensure the security of lives and property.

He appealed to Nigerians to refuse to be used by desperate, criminal-minded individuals, as anyone caught would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
