Kaduna: The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Homeland Protectors Supplies Limited on Thursday for the production of satellite laser systems and security drones.
The Director-General (DICON), Maj.-Gen. Babatunde Alaya stated that the partnership aimed to bring expertise and experience in satellite laser systems, communication, and modern security drones to Nigeria.
Alaya said, “Today is another milestone for DICON. We have just signed a significant partnership agreement with Homeland Protectors Limited, an international organisation.
“What we are bringing on board are our expertise and experience in the field of satellite, laser systems, communications, and weather security drones.”
The director-general stated that the agreement allowed the company to establish its production line in Nigeria and commence production there.
Alaya said, “So that we can satisfy the defence industry requirements and other security agencies.
“And also to export excess capacity to other African countries.
“So, it’s a significant milestone, and I want to thank the Managing Director of the company for finding time to travel and come to Nigeria to sign the MOU by himself.
“We are going to see joint production at that point, and it has a lot of expertise.”
According to Alaya, the joint venture is expected to bring benefits to DICON and Nigeria’s defence industry.
He added, “The support of President Bola Tinubu and the Ministers of Defence has been instrumental in making this partnership a reality.”
Alaya stated that the collaboration would also facilitate technology transfer and knowledge sharing between DICON and the globally reputable firm.
He added that the partnership would enhance Nigeria’s local production capabilities for defence systems.
“This partnership has the potential to boost Nigeria’s defence industry and contribute to regional security,” Alaya said.
The director-general appreciated Tinubu for signing the DICON Act in 2023, which had enabled it to partner with international companies like Homeland Protectors Limited.
Alaya also commended the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar and the Minister of State, Bello Matawalle, for their sustained support to DICON.
He said that the act had paved the way for DICON to collaborate with international companies, which would not have been possible without it.
Earlier, the Managing Director (MD), Chief Executive Officer (CEO),
Mr Ali Aldayhani also thanked Tinubu and the two ministers for their support.
He said, “Without the act, we wouldn’t have been able to sign this MOU.”
