Lagos: Mr Usman Hamzat, the incumbent and chairman-elect of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, has assured residents of more grassroots infrastructural development after winning a second term.
Hamzat, while thanking the electorate on Thursday in his office, pledged to improve development and ensure residents enjoy the dividends of democracy through sustained infrastructure upgrades.
“This dramatic rise in party performance and voter turnout is no accident, but the outcome of purposeful, transparent, and people-centred leadership since July 2021.
“Since assuming leadership, we have redefined local governance through landmark achievements that have positively impacted the lives of our people.
“Our HEEDS Agenda prioritised massive infrastructure, including road construction, rehabilitation, and drainage projects across all wards, setting new standards in local development.
“We enhanced education by renovating schools and distributing materials, upgraded healthcare with free outreach, improved PHCs, and maternal-child care initiatives.
“We also introduced welfare programmes for women, youths, artisans, the elderly, and People Living with Disabilities (PwDs), addressing social inclusion.
“We remain committed to transparent governance and open-door policies, which have built public trust and increased civic participation,” Hamzat said.
Hamzat said the achievements were recognised by voters, as shown by the overwhelming electoral support, confirming confidence in the APC-led administration.
He stressed that the victory was not an end, but a renewed mandate to serve Ifako-Ijaiye with integrity, vision, and development-focused leadership.
He explained that electoral data from three election cycles highlight steady progress, growth, and a rising level of public trust in APC grassroots leadership.
He recalled that, “In the 2017 local council election, APC secured 6,930 votes.
“By 2021, when I first contested, we increased that to 8,297 votes, a 19.7 per cent growth from 2017.
“In the 2025 election, APC won 20,285 votes—a 144.5% rise from 2021—an unprecedented feat in Ifako-Ijaiye’s history.
“Voter turnout has also surged, indicating rising political awareness, engagement, and approval among our citizens.”
Hamzat thanked party members, stakeholders, traditional and community leaders, youths, women’s groups, and all voters for their historic support.
“We assure residents that the next four years will bring even greater progress to Ifako-Ijaiye,” he said.
