Asaba: Delta Dep. Governor Monday Onyeme has urged communities to follow due process and avoid acts capable of causing a breach of the peace while selecting their kings.

Onyeme gave the charge on Tuesday when the political leaders and traditional rulers from Ukwuani Local Government Area (LGA) paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.

He stated that there were established rules governing the emergence of kings in every kingdom; hence, communities must abide by these rules.

He said that the State Government would only present the staff of office to Kings who were qualified. Onyeme also warned against illegal sales of land in Obiaruku, the headquarters of Ukwuani LGA, while calling for a stop to land sales in disputed areas.

He said: “Refrain from selling land in disputed areas, since the case is before a competent court of law.

“Wait for the judgment of the court before embarking on any action, or you will fall victim to contempt of court. The administration of Sheriff Oborevwori will not tolerate a crisis of any kind in any part of our state.

“We are committed to peaceful coexistence, adherence to the rule of law, and ensuring a state where socio-economic activities thrive without the fear of molestation.

“This is a modern age, due to development, some communities have become autonomous, but such should be done civilly without rancour; it can be done by mutual agreement.”

Those in the delegation included the council Chairman, Possible Ajede; Commissioner for Finance, Fidelis Tilije, and former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Christopher Ochor.

Others were a former state lawmaker, Alphonsus Ojo, the Ebu of Umuebu Kingdom, Donald Ekeruche, the Ezhie of Ezionum Kingdom, Roland Osawunta, and the Igwete of Amai Kingdom, Paul Ifeneziuche, among others.

In their separate remarks, they pledged their resolve to embrace peace, adding that there was no alternative to peaceful coexistence.
